Abstract:
This study examines specific social discourses articulated by Marina Colasanti in her writings published in the 1980s in Brazil, a period characterized by the end of military rule and the beginning of the re-democratization process. This is also a period in which feminist discourses gained more visibility in light of the consolidation of the Brazilian feminist movement. The selected texts of Colasanti chosen for analysis were articles compiled in the anthologies A nova mulher and Mulher daqui pra frente, responses to her readers published in the magazine Nova (later collected in Intimidade Pública), and short-stories written for children and young readers. In establishing a dialogue among these diverse texts, this study shows that Colasanti’s writings unveil the internalized social attitudes on the part of her female readership concerning women’s secondary role in society. It concludes by arguing that Colasanti’s textual plurality can be seen as a privileged site of representation, interpretation, and the articulation of women’s social experiences.
Keywords: Marina Colassanti, literature, feminism, experience.
