Abstract:
This study aimed to analyze the gender representation in fairy tales written by Marina Colasanti, through the development of identities and power relations within its narratives, in order to study how the role models imposed to women throughout culture are deconstructed by the author, hence it is clear that her writing is embedded with feminist critiques of the patriarchal system that diminishes women. In order to develop such research, we selected four fairy tales, namely: “A primeira só” and “Um espinhho de marfim”, in Uma ideia toda azul (1978); “À procura de um reflexo” and “Entre leão e unicórnio”, published in Doze reis e a moça no labirinto do vento (1982). In this context, we did a study from the feminist theory of gender and from social psychology, interconnected with the symbol one, considering that we selected two symbolic images to guide our analysis: the mirror and the unicorn, which were understood as ambiguous elements in the rejection process of social models imposed to the protagonists, as they either symbolize an instrument of their coercion, or sometimes help them break male control.
